Searching
Quick search from the header, the search page with filters, and what is searched: tickets, pages, activities, customers, projects and boards.
Quick search
The search box in the header, or the / key, opens quick search. Type a ticket key, a project, board or customer name, or any words: results appear as you type: first the pages to go straight to, then projects, boards (by name, number, or the key or name of a project they show), tickets, knowledge base pages, customers, contacts, activities and the guides. An exact ticket key such as HELP-42 or a project key such as HELP is listed under Exact match, just above the projects. Use the arrow keys to move the highlight and Enter to open it; Enter with nothing highlighted opens the first result, or the search page when nothing matched. Search page at the bottom takes the words there.
Tabs
A row of tabs over the results narrows them to one kind: All shows a few of each, and Go to, Projects, Boards, Tickets, Pages, Customers, Contacts, Activities and Guides each show more of their own kind. A tab only appears when it has something, with how many beside it. The arrow keys and Enter work within the tab you are on, and new words fall back to All when the tab has nothing for them. The search page has the same tabs under its criteria.
Going straight to a page
Quick search also takes you anywhere in the app. Type the name of a page, such as settings, boards, invoices or imports, or a word for it, such as password or sso, and it is listed under Go to, with the knowledge base spaces whose key or name, or whose project's key or name, matches. Pages of the user guide and, for members, the API documentation are listed under Guides. Only what you may open is offered: administration pages to administrators, and nothing from a module or feature that is switched off.
The search page
The search page looks across every project you can see, with the same tabs as quick search under its criteria (the tab you are on is kept in the address), and adds filters: project, status, type, assignee, reporter, label, and the dates a ticket was created or updated. Words and filters combine, and everything is kept in the page's address, so a search can be bookmarked or shared with a colleague, who will see only the tickets they may see. Results are sorted by best match when there are words to match and by most recent update otherwise; the Sort choice changes that. With no words the page is a plain filtered list, useful for "everything assigned to me updated this week".
Beside the results, facets count the matching tickets by status, type, assignee and project. Click one to narrow the search, and again to widen it; each facet's counts ignore its own choice, so they show what picking it would leave.
What is searched
Every ticket's key, summary, description, environment and labels are always searchable. Administrators choose whether comments, work-log notes, attachment file names and custom field text are indexed too (they are by default). Internal comments and notes are only matched for members, never for customers, and a comment restricted to a role or group is matched only for people in that role or group and the project's administrators. Tickets outside your security level never appear.
Matching tolerates typos and matches as you type, so "printr" finds "printer" and "dep" finds "deployment". A key such as HELP-42 is matched exactly and listed first.
What a module that is switched off for the workspace holds is not found: pages while the knowledge base is off, activities while time is, contacts while the CRM is, and the tickets of a helpdesk or sales project while its module is (see Modules and features).
New and changed tickets are indexed within seconds. Administrators can rebuild the whole index from the admin page; see Administration.
Activities and customers
Words also find activities: an activity's description, note and labels, the key of its ticket and the names of its project and customer are searched. You find your own activities, those on tickets you may see, and those of every project or customer where your role has See everyone's time. One of your own opens your activities page at the activity; somebody else's opens the reports page on its day, filtered to its author. The search page lists up to ten under Activities.
A customer is found by its name, by whoever may see its billing, and opens its page under Time, Customers.
On a project
The search box on a project page filters that project's list with the same matching, alongside the status tabs and Assigned to me. Press f to jump to it.
Ticket keys
Type or paste a ticket key such as HELP-42 anywhere a search box is to jump to it. Keys are stable, so bookmarks and links from other tools keep working, including links that used a ticket's old Jira address.
Pages, queues and boards
Words also find knowledge base pages, listed above the tickets on the search page with the passage they matched; see Searching pages. Helpdesk queues are saved searches for a project, and boards are visual filters over statuses.
